CONTROL Ultimate Edition supports Steam Cloud, which automatically syncs your saved progress to your Steam account. You can also manually back up your saves locally for extra security.
Automatic Steam Cloud Backup
Steam Cloud is enabled by default for CONTROL Ultimate Edition. It automatically uploads your saves when you exit the game.
To confirm Steam Cloud is active:
Open Steam.
Go to Library → Right-click CONTROL Ultimate Edition → Properties.
Select the General tab.
Ensure “Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud for CONTROL Ultimate Edition” is checked.
Always confirm that the game’s store page shows the Steam Cloud icon, this indicates syncing is supported for your version.
Manual Backup
If you want a local backup of your saves:
Close the game and Steam.
Navigate to your save location:
<Steam library folder>\userdata\<your-SteamID>\870780\remoteExample:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\123456789\870780\remoteCopy the entire remote folder to a safe place (external drive or cloud storage).
Rename your backup folder by date, e.g.,
Control_Steam_Backup_2025-11-10, to keep multiple versions organized.
Manual Restore
Close Steam completely.
Navigate to the same directory:
<Steam library folder>\userdata\<your-SteamID>\870780\remoteReplace the files inside with your backed-up version.
Re-launch Steam.
When prompted by Steam Cloud to choose between local and cloud files, select the newer save you want to keep.
If restoring a manual backup, temporarily disable Steam Cloud sync (Steam → Settings → Cloud) to prevent overwriting, then re-enable it once the restored save loads correctly.
If Steam Cloud Fails to Sync
Re-enable Steam Cloud under Steam → Settings → Cloud → Enable Steam Cloud synchronization.
Restart Steam and launch the game again.
If the issue persists, check your Steam Cloud storage quota or network connectivity.
