A clean GPU driver installation ensures CONTROL Ultimate Edition runs at maximum stability and performance. Over time, leftover driver components can cause stutters, crashes, or low FPS.
This guide will walk you through fully removing old AMD drivers, reinstalling the latest version, and optionally restoring your GPU settings to factory defaults.
Before You Begin
Back up any custom profiles or overclock settings in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
Close all applications, including launchers, overlays, or browser tabs.
Ensure your system is connected to the internet to download the required drivers.
(Optional) For a deeper cleanup, you can boot into Safe Mode before using the AMD Cleanup Utility.
A. Full Cleanup
1. Download & Launch AMD Cleanup Utility
Visit the official AMD Cleanup Utility page.
Save the utility to your desktop for easy access.
2. Run the Utility
Run the AMD Cleanup Utility in Safe Mode (recommended) or Normal Mode.
Follow the on-screen instructions to remove all legacy AMD driver files, registry entries, and software components.
Once complete, restart your PC.
B. Fresh Driver Install
1. Download the Latest Adrenalin Drivers
Go to the official AMD Drivers and Support page.
Identify your GPU (for example, Radeon RX 6000 Series) and operating system.
Download the most recent Adrenalin Edition package.
2. Install & Reboot
Run the installer and select Factory Reset if prompted (optional).
Follow the installation prompts.
Restart your PC after installation completes.
C. Factory Reset (Optional)
1. Open AMD Software (Adrenalin Edition)
Right-click your desktop and select AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
2. Restore Defaults
Go to Settings → System.
Click Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.
This resets all tuning profiles and system settings back to AMD’s recommended defaults.
Post-Install Validation
Test In-Game
Launch CONTROL Ultimate Edition and run a graphically intensive section (such as the Ashtray Maze or combat-heavy encounters).
Check for any stutters, artifacts, or instability.
Reapply Custom Settings
Restore your preferred Radeon Chill, Anti-Lag, or Enhanced Sync profiles if used previously.
Monitor Stability
Observe GPU temperatures and performance across multiple sessions to ensure stability is consistent.
