PlayStation 5 doesn’t offer a direct file‑verification feature. Instead, you can use Safe Mode to clear cache and rebuild the database, which can resolve corrupted data or icons that linger after deletion. If that fails, reinstalling the game is your next step.

Steps to repair the PS5

  1. Completely power off your PS5. Hold the power button for three seconds until you hear a beep. Once it shuts down, press and hold the power button again and release after you hear a second beep – this starts the console in Safe Mode.

  2. Connect your controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.

  3. Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Choose Rebuild Database to scan the drive and create a new database of all content; this option is useful if system features are misbehaving or a game icon remains on the home screen.

  4. After rebuilding, restart the PS5 normally and test the game.

  5. If problems persist, delete CONTROL Ultimate Edition from the home screen (highlight it, press Options, choose Delete) and download it again from your library.

Important Notes

  • Rebuild Database can take time depending on how full your SSD is; do not turn off the console during the process.

  • Ensure your save data is backed up via PlayStation Plus Cloud Storage or copied to a USB drive before deleting the game.

  • If the console repeatedly enters Safe Mode or multiple games crash, update the system software or consider backing up and reinstalling the OS.
