PlayStation 4, like its successor, doesn’t provide a per‑game file‑verification tool. Using Safe Mode to rebuild the database can correct corrupted data or persistent glitches. When necessary, reinstalling the game is your primary method of repair.
Steps to repair the PS4
Turn off your PS4 completely. Press and hold the power button until you hear a second beep to enter Safe Mode.
Connect your controller via USB and select Rebuild Database. This scans the drive and creates a fresh database of all content.
Once the rebuild is complete, restart the console and test the game.
If the issue persists, highlight CONTROL Ultimate Edition on the home screen, press Options, choose Delete, then re‑download the game from your library.
Important Notes
Rebuilding the database can take several minutes or longer; avoid interrupting the process to prevent additional corruption.
Ensure your PS4 system software is up to date before reinstalling; outdated firmware can cause crashes.
Back up your saved data to the cloud (PS Plus) or to a USB drive via Settings → Application Saved Data Management.
