Sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling CONTROL Ultimate Edition can resolve crashes, install errors, or file corruption. This guide explains how to completely remove the Mac App Store version of the game from your Mac. Follow these steps if you need to free space or perform a clean reinstall.

Uninstall Control Macos

Note: uninstalling will remove the application; be sure to back up your save data if you want to keep your progress.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Save your progress (optional) – If you plan to reinstall, back up your save data first so you don’t lose your progress. See our save‑data guide for instructions.

  2. Quit the game – Make sure CONTROL Ultimate Edition is not running. Close the game from the menu bar or press ⌘ + Q.

  3. Delete the game using Launchpad – Click the Apps (Launchpad) icon in your Dock, then find CONTROL Ultimate Edition in the grid. Click and hold the icon until it starts to wiggle, then click the X (Close) button to remove it. Confirm when asked. This method works for most Mac App Store apps.

  4. Alternative: uninstall via Finder – Click the Finder icon in the Dock to open a Finder window. In the sidebar, select Applications. Control‑click (or right‑click) the CONTROL Ultimate Edition app and choose Move to Trash. Empty the Trash to free up disk space.

  5. Empty the Trash – To permanently remove the app and reclaim space, choose Finder > Empty Trash from the menu bar. Once the Trash is emptied, the game cannot be restored unless you reinstall.

Important Notes

  • Permanent removal: Emptying the Trash makes removal permanent. Only do this after backing up save data and ensuring you no longer need the app.

  • System apps can’t be removed: macOS won’t let you delete built‑in apps such as Safari or Mail. However, CONTROL Ultimate Edition is user‑installed and can be removed.

  • If the app is in use: If the Finder says the app is in use, quit CONTROL Ultimate Edition or restart your Mac and try again.

Additional Tips

  • Reinstalling later: To reinstall CONTROL Ultimate Edition, open the App Store, click your name at the bottom left, locate CONTROL Ultimate Edition in your purchased apps, and click the Download button.

  • Backup save data: Before uninstalling, copy your save files to a safe location. See our macOS save‑data guide for details.

  • Troubleshooting: If the app icon remains in Launchpad after removal, restart your Mac. Occasionally, the system cache needs to be rebuilt to update the icon list.
