While touch controls are fully supported, many players prefer using a controller for improved precision, movement, and overall gameplay comfort. CONTROL Ultimate Edition supports several popular Bluetooth controllers on iOS, including PlayStation DualSense, Xbox Wireless Controllers, and compatible MFi (Made for iOS) controllers.

This guide walks you through how to connect and troubleshoot supported controllers on Apple devices.

Supported Controller Types

CONTROL Ultimate Edition on iOS supports many modern Bluetooth controllers compatible with Apple devices, including:

  • PlayStation DualSense controllers
  • PlayStation DualShock 4 controllers
  • Xbox Wireless Controllers with Bluetooth support
  • compatible MFi controllers

Apple officially supports Bluetooth game controllers across iPhone and iPad devices running supported iOS/iPadOS versions.

Step 1: Enable Bluetooth on Your Device

Controllers connect to iPhone and iPad through Bluetooth. Before pairing a controller, make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.

To enable Bluetooth:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Bluetooth
  3. Ensure Bluetooth is turned on

Your iPhone or iPad will begin searching for nearby Bluetooth devices automatically.

Step 2: Put Your Controller Into Pairing Mode

Before the controller can connect, it must be placed into Bluetooth pairing mode so your iPhone or iPad can detect it.

PlayStation DualSense / DualShock 4

To enter pairing mode:

  1. Press and hold the PlayStation button
  2. At the same time, press and hold the:
    • Create button (DualSense)
    • Share button (DualShock 4)
  3. Continue holding both buttons until the controller light begins flashing rapidly

Apple officially supports DualSense and DualShock wireless controllers on iPhone and iPad.

Xbox Wireless Controller

To enter pairing mode:

  1. Press the Xbox button to power on the controller
  2. Press and hold the Pair button near the USB port
  3. Wait for the Xbox button to begin flashing rapidly

Bluetooth-enabled Xbox Wireless Controllers are officially supported on Apple devices.

MFi Controllers

For MFi-compatible controllers:

  1. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to enable Bluetooth pairing mode
  2. Wait for the controller to become discoverable

Pairing steps may vary depending on the controller model.

Step 3: Pair the Controller

Once the controller enters pairing mode, it should appear in the Bluetooth device list on your iPhone or iPad.

To pair the controller:

  1. Stay in: Settings → Bluetooth
  2. Locate the controller under: Other Devices
  3. Tap the controller name to connect

After pairing successfully:

  • The controller will move to My Devices
  • The controller light may stop flashing or become solid

Once connected, CONTROL Ultimate Edition should automatically detect the controller during gameplay.

Step 4: Launch CONTROL Ultimate Edition

After pairing your controller:

  1. Launch CONTROL Ultimate Edition
  2. Wait for the game to detect the controller automatically

If detected successfully:

  • On-screen prompts may switch from touch controls to controller button layouts
  • Menu navigation and gameplay controls should respond immediately

Note: Some controllers may require reconnecting after restarting the game or device.

Step 5: Troubleshoot Controller Issues

If your controller is not detected or behaves unexpectedly, temporary Bluetooth or connection issues may be interfering with the device.

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Restart Bluetooth
  • Reconnect the controller
  • Restart your iPhone or iPad
  • Fully restart the controller
  • Relaunch the game

Note: Bluetooth interference or low battery levels may occasionally affect controller stability or responsiveness during gameplay.

Important Notes

  • Controller compatibility may vary depending on the controller model and iOS/iPadOS version.
  • Some older Xbox controllers may not support Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Certain controller features, such as haptics or adaptive triggers, may behave differently on iOS compared to console versions.
  • Cross-progression with PC or console platforms is not supported. Apple save synchronization is limited to the Apple ecosystem through supported services.

Pro Tips

  • Keep your controller fully charged before long gameplay sessions.
  • Restarting the controller occasionally may improve Bluetooth stability.
  • Wired or USB-C mobile controllers may provide lower latency than Bluetooth devices.
  • If the controller stops responding, reconnect it through Bluetooth settings before relaunching the game.
